Histamine is a vital molecule, a transmitter that belongs to the so-called biogenic amines and that is present in many foods naturally, as well as inside our cells. Normally, the intake of histamine contained in food does not cause any type of problem, since it is rapidly processed and metabolized by the enzyme DiAminoOxidase (DAO).

DAO is the main enzyme in the metabolism of ingested histamine. Mostly, it is located in the intestinal epithelium, an area where it degrades the histamine ingested in food, preventing it from passing into the blood.

We speak of a DAO deficit in the case of a deficiency in the activity of the metabolizing enzyme DiAminoOxidase or when there is an unbalanced ratio between histamine ingested with food and the ability to metabolize it by said enzyme. For this reason, histamine is not sufficiently metabolized or degraded, passing into the bloodstream and triggering the different symptoms. The most common are:

- Digestive disorders, such as a feeling of bloating, flatulence, constipation or diarrhea.

- Muscle aches and pains and osteopathic pain.

- Skin disorders, such as dry or atopic skin.

- Headache.

- Non-allergic rhinitis.

- Tinnitus.

The DiAminoOxidase (DAO) of DAOfood complements the body s own enzyme, which is responsible for metabolizing histamine. Taking 1 tablet of DAOfood before each meal increases the amount of DAO in the small intestine and, therefore, the ability to break down histamine. Thus, the processing in the digestive tract of histamine present in food, which is the trigger of the symptoms, is accelerated.
